The Philippine Media
The question in the "Inbox World" of a recent issue of The Philippine Star says: Do you agree with P-Noy’s lament that Philippine media is too negative and overly critical of the government?
In my opinion, Philippine media is too negative and overly critical of the government. But that is what a democracy is. We have freedom of the press. On the other hand, media should be responsible , it should “police its ranks” to borrow the words of P-Noy.
Filipinos seem to enjoy reading negative news and watching bad news in television. That is what sells, that is why media is emphasizing and sensationalizing the negative more than the positive, which should not be the case.
It is well for media to also give credit to the administration for its good performance, as shown in the confidence and trust given by business to the present administration. There should be balance in reporting.
