Phuket 2026: Four Wonderful Days in the Pearl of the Andaman
Every year, our family looks forward to our annual vacation together. It is one of the highlights of the year - a time to rest, laugh, create new memories, and simply enjoy one another's company.
This year, from June 26 to June 29, 2026, our destination was the beautiful island of Phuket, Thailand.
Planning for the trip began as early as January. The Legaspi, Aspacio, and Amper families were all excited about traveling together once again. (Of course, when I say "Amper," that naturally includes Gilbert!) Unfortunately, the Aspacio family had to cancel because they were busy preparing for the opening of their new school in Vietnam. It was the first time they were unable to join our annual family vacation, and we certainly missed having them with us.
By February, our flights had already been booked, and everyone eagerly counted the days until departure.
Traveling with an Injured Foot
I honestly wasn't sure if I would be able to join the trip because I had injured my foot. Thankfully, after consulting my orthopedic doctor, I was given permission to travel. That was wonderful news!
June 26, 2026 - Off to NAIA
Although I was able to go, I needed a wheelchair at the airports because of the long walking distances. I am grateful that everything went smoothly and that the airport staff were very helpful.
Our First Day in Phuket
Upon arriving in Phuket, our first stop was an elephant sanctuary where we had the opportunity to feed the elephants. Ana, Ted, Rose, Gilbert, and Sam especially enjoyed this unique experience. Seeing these gentle giants up close was unforgettable.
Afterward, we visited the Phuket City Viewpoint. The panoramic view was simply breathtaking. Standing there, overlooking the sea and the lush green landscape, reminded me once again of God's wonderful creation.
Some of the group later explored the nearby market to shop for souvenirs and gifts for family and friends back home. Because of my foot, Bayani and I decided not to join them. Instead, after lunch, we returned to our van and rested while waiting for everyone else.
By the time we arrived at our accommodation, the beautiful Andaman Pool Villas, we were all exhausted after a full day of sightseeing and traveling.
Island Hopping Adventure
The following day was reserved for island hopping, one of Phuket's most popular activities.Considering my injured foot and the need to transfer between boats, I decided it would be wiser not to join the excursion. After the previous day's activities, I also felt that my body needed some much-needed rest.
When everyone returned, they shared stories about their adventure. They had a wonderful time visiting the islands, but the ride back was another story! The speedboat encountered rough waters, making the trip extremely bumpy. According to everyone, there was plenty of shouting and nervous laughter along the way. Bayani commented that he would not recommend this activity for elderly travelers because of the rough ride. In fact, both he and Ted developed terrible headaches afterward.
Even though I missed the island tour, I was happy to hear all their stories and see their beautiful photos.
A Beautiful Surprise Celebration
The highlight of our Phuket vacation came on our last evening.
Unknown to Angelo and Weng, a surprise program had been prepared to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. In addition to our usual travel group, some of their relatives joined us for this special occasion, making the celebration even more meaningful.
Everything was thoughtfully organized by Ana, who once again demonstrated her remarkable talent for planning memorable events. The program was beautifully prepared, filled with laughter, touching moments, and heartfelt messages.
This wasn't the first time Ana had taken on such a big responsibility. As in our previous family trips, she carefully selected and booked our villas, planned our itinerary, coordinated many of the details, and made sure everything ran smoothly. All we had to do was book our flights, show up, enjoy ourselves, and, of course, pay our share of the expenses!
Ted and Rose were also incredibly generous throughout the trip. Thank you both for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

Ana, thank you so much for all your hard work. You have so many God-given talents. You are an excellent teacher, a wonderful cook, an engaging emcee, a gifted singer, and an amazing organizer. More importantly, you have a generous heart that lovingly serves everyone around you. It is no surprise that your friends enjoy being with you.
The surprise was a complete success. Angelo and Weng were deeply touched and genuinely surprised. Weng even became emotional as she expressed her gratitude.
Too Short... But Full of Wonderful Memories
If there was one complaint about this vacation, it was that it ended far too quickly.
We left the Philippines on June 26 and had a 14-hour layover in Kuala Lumpur, which required us to book a hotel for the night before catching an early morning flight to Phuket the following day. Then, before we knew it, it was already June 29, and it was time to fly home.
Four days simply weren't enough!
Everyone agreed that our next family vacation should be a little longer so that we could relax more and enjoy each destination without feeling rushed. As we say in Filipino, it was "bitin"—it left us wishing for more.
Above All, We Thank the Lord
More than the beautiful scenery, exciting adventures, and happy memories, I am most grateful to the Lord for His protection and provision throughout our trip.
I especially thank Him because, at 80 years old and with an injured foot, I was still able to travel safely and enjoy this wonderful vacation with my family and friends. Every step - even those taken with the assistance of a wheelchair - was a reminder of God's faithfulness and care.
Indeed, God is good - all the time.
