The Greatest Love of All
Today is the last Sunday before Christmas which falls on a Saturday this year. The songs and the message in the church centered on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. As it sometimes happens during praise and worship, tears welled in my eyes as we sang the songs, not knowing that my niece who was standing beside me noticed it. After the service she asked why I cried. I did not answer her. I just smiled.
The communion service which followed after the Christmas message did not fail to make me contemplate on the purpose of our Lord Jesus Christ’s birth. Indeed His birth is unique. When our children were born, we made good plans on how to raise them up, and later when they plan on the course they would take up, we gave them guidance. We never thought about when they would die or how they would die. But the Lord Jesus was born to die. God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die on the cross of Calvary in order to save us from the penalty of our sins. Isn’t that amazing love?
So is it not that we should be grateful to God for that? That because He loved us so much, we should love Him also by being obedient to all His commandments?
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
