Automation and the need to prepare
During the last century, inventions became fast paced. Washing machines, electric stove, microwaves, television, fax machines, computers, cell phones, and many other electronic gadgets were invented.
Some centuries before, people traveled only by riding a horse. Nowadays, we have all kinds ships, motor vehicles and airplanes; we wash clothes with a washing machine, we just switch on the burner or the electric stove to start cooking, and we just switch on the light to lighten a room, we insert a coin in a vending machine for coffee and other drinks, and so on and so forth. Even robots are now doing the things that only people could do in the past. Everything is done with the help of machines.
All these are possible because of the inventions of man. These time saving machines have become a great help to a busy world. However, machines that need gasoline or any other thing that contributes much to pollution and global warming are causing climate change that results to calamities such as floods, tsunami, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Our world is very old and tired. I now think of a verse in the Bible:
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Revelation 21:1
In the light of the recent calamitous events, I am led to believe that our present earth is heading toward destruction. Scary but true. So, because this is an eventuality, we all need to be prepared. This may not happen in our lifetime, maybe in the lifetime of our children, or our grandchildren, or our great grandchildren, but is it not wise to prepare for it now? Let us live a life that is glorifying to God by being obedient to His commandments.
“Love the Lord your God with all our heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30) This is the first commandment.
The second, which we will not be able to fulfill if we don’t obey the first commandment is: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Mark 12:31)
All these is quite eerie but true. The end will come just like a thief in the night. With all that is happening in the world today especially the destruction of nature and the indifference of people in its care, it can't be very far behind. Hopefully we have prepared for that day, spiritually most of all. (comment from Linda Cerna)
