Lotto
We now have a big winner of Lotto, P741 million! Isn’t that great? We hope that the winner really deserves to win, and that he would use the money wisely.
It is a fact that the numbers game has been patronized mostly by the lower class, in the hope of hitting it big – easy money, they say (which is bad). Money derived easily will also be lost easily. It is also a fact that lotto winners develop a bunch of worries very quickly. If the winner is one who has lived in a hand-to-mouth existence, he will not be able to handle large amounts of money in his hand. His only experience has been spending all he has which is not much, until he earns again for the next day’s basic necessities.
Another problem is that he will be besieged by people asking for help. Whereas in the past, relatives had been ignoring him, but once he wins the lotto, they come in droves asking for help. What’s more, it is likely that he will be preyed on by “unscrupulous” financial advisors.
Man should work hard to earn his keep. That is how God wants it to be. Jesus warns his followers about the power of money because it often brings unforeseen difficulties and temptations into our life. There is a spiritual quality to money for good or ill. Surely we can do better than “winning the lotto” when we envision the ultimate blessing from God.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves with many griefs. – 1 Tim. 6:10
