My Hopes for 2011
There is this familiar adage that says, “Expect the worst, but hope for the best”.
It is imperative for people to have hope for the future. If not, what can we hold on to? But when we hope, we should also do our best to make that hope a reality. We are not to be just onlookers. We must take active part – do our part in our own small way to make life for the future better not only for ourselves but also for others. Remember another adage? "No man is an island. " What we do will surely have repercussions on others. Whether we like it or not, we are interdependent on one another.
As I don’t want to focus on the negative things, I won’t think of the worst. Nevertheless, I know I must be prepared for the worst. I must be circumspect in everything, which includes spiritual things as well as health and finances.
So for next year, my hopes for the country is that the current administration will continue its fight against corruption, that a big fish will be tried and convicted so as to send a strong signal to everyone that this administration is serious and bent on its objective to fight corruption; that President Aquino will be more decisive, and listen to his “Boss”. Just like any Filipino, I hope for a better economy for our country next year.
Personally, I would like to improve on what I have started doing during the middle of this year. I have been taking notes from my reading of the Bible so that I could delve deeper on what the Lord wants me to learn, and to understand more what He wants me to do. I know people may say that at my age, it seems too late doing that, but I say, “It’s better late, than never.” And I know that “I am a work in progress”.
I also hope to have better relationship with my family and my siblings. I am way past middle age, and I don’t know when the Lord will take me, so as much as possible, I want to have harmonious relationships with everyone around me. Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
