Willie Revillame

When I first heard about Willie Revillame, it was when his marriage with Princess Punzalan ended.  News about him were all negative – that he was a womanizer, a gambler, and that he wasted Princess Punzalan’s inheritance in the casino.

Then I saw Willie again about a decade ago in the noontime show “Magandang Tanghali Bayan” in ABS-CBN.  He gave the impression that he was uncouth, especially with the way he interacted with the girl contestants.  He was suspended twice from his TV shows.  But he was given another opportunity by another TV station.  He hosted a show entitled “Willingly Yours” where I think he did very well.

However, it was in Wowowee that Willie was able to redeem himself.  All the negative things about him were simply forgotten when he began hosting this noontime show.  He endeared himself with various types of people, especially the “masa”.

But what he did on May 4, 2010 was not good, when he challenged ABS-CBN that he would resign if the network would not axe Jobert Sucaldito.  My sympathy is for Willie because Sucaldito was being haughty,  but the thing that Willie did was equally uncalled for when he challenged the giant network.

However, ABS-CBN should not have treated Willie the way they did.  They are not right in trying to prevent Willie from working in another TV station.  That is a violation of the human rights of Willie.
