President Aquino vows: Justice will be served
In yesterday's issue of The Philippine Star, it was reported that President Aquino vowed not to rest until justice has been served to the victims of the Maguindanao massacre.
I have always believed in President Noynoy Aquino’s sincerity. So, when he made that statement, I know he is determined. But because of the experience in the past administration’s numerous promises that failed, people had become cynical. I think when P-Noy made that statement, at the back of his mind, he wanted to prove to the people that with him at the helm, people can rest assured that that there will be justice in his administration.
In this country, justice is agonizingly slow. The defense counsel would always resort to dilatory tactics such as asking for postponement of the scheduled hearings for various reasons like that the defendant is sick, that the witness is not available, or any other “excuse” for non-appearance in court. Take for instance the Vizconde Massacre which happened in 1991. Until now, there is no decision yet.
However, let us not lose hope. Since the President is really determined not to fail the legacy of his famous parents, there is hope that he will do his best to fulfill all his promises.
