It's almost six years since I retired
I have been in retirement since I left my last job due to compulsory retirement almost six years ago. I could recall how my officemates would keep asking me what I would be doing when I retire. And I was wondering why they would ask me such question. Isn’t retirement a phase when a person who had worked hard during the best and most productive years of her life gets rewarded by being released from the pressure of her job? I thought that they might not realize it because they were much younger than me, and being still relatively young, had they retired at that time, they would surely get bored if they would not keep themselves busy.
Truth to tell, there are several work opportunities for those who still want to work when they retire from their job. One is self-employment such as those who want to engage in Retail System, another is the Real Estate business, and the most feasible in terms of sure income is the food distribution business.
However, I did not get into any of these endeavors. During the first few months of my retirement, I got busy in my house, cleaning and trying to make some order, sorting and disposing/giving away those things that I didn’t need any more. Then later, I visited my siblings who are settled in other countries. Then my daughter persisted in convincing me to write. And because of this, I was able to release and verbalize my thoughts. And I really love this kind of activity because I can express myself better in writing than in talking.
It is almost 5 years since my retirement and I still have lots of things undone. It is because as I was getting set to do some house cleaning, arranging, sorting of things accumulated through the years, I was beckoned to the world of computers. While learning the fundamentals at 64 years old I was tempted to sing, Elvis Presley's It's Now or Never, he, he,he. I thank you Lynn, for coming back into my life after almost 47 years, thru the Facebook because you have brought me to this wonderful world of communication at a time when I was a little free of the cares of the world. When I look back, I could not imagine how things came to be, with a husband, 3 boys, a household to run and a job and in between travels to the US to visit my parents. In 2000, when I was in the US I was fascinated with a 2 step stool my brother bought at a hardware. I wanted to have one for myself to bring back home but there was only one left. I needed it badly to reach my tall cabinets and shelves. I did not see one like it. My brother gladly gave it to me when I left and I thanked him enormously for such a kind gesture.
