Being ready for the afterlife

Some people may think that when one is thinking about death, he is being morbid.  I will never think of it that way.  Death is a reality, and anyone who wants to die well must be prepared for it.  A number of people, in an attempt to prepare for the inevitable, bought memorial plan and lots.  This is good so that when the time comes, their loved ones who will be mourning their demise will be spared from the added trouble and expense of looking for a place to bury their departed loved ones..

On the spiritual side, it is well for a person to be prepared to go anytime by being what God wants him to be and by doing what God wants him to do.  Somewhere I have read this: “What you are is God’s gift to you, and what you have become is your gift to God.”  If I have interpreted it correctly, I would think that it means that when you were born, you had qualities that you were born with.  Those are God’s gifts to you.  Now what you become and what you did with God’s gifts to you – will be your gift to God.  Did you use God’s gifts to you in a way that you have become a blessing to your parents, and to society in general, or were you a problem or a menace to them?  Did you use God’s gifts and blessings to you to help those who need help?

The Bible in Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  There is no law against these things.”

I know I am still far from having the above characteristics of a Christian, and that I am a work in progress.  I just have to do what I need to do, and with God’s help, I can become the kind of person He wants me to be, because I know that by myself, I could not do it.
