Did Former AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Angelo Reyes die in vain?

A recent Inbox World question:  Did former AFP chief of staff Gen. Angelo Reyes die in vain?

So many questions, issues and opinions surfaced when the former Gen. Angelo Reyes committed suicide.  What is the reason behind his suicide?  Is it because of guilt?  Is it because of the shame he had encountered at the hearing in the Senate Halls when he was grilled like a criminal?

Nobody can know for sure the reason why he committed suicide.  I think it is only his family who knows for sure.

But for whatever reason he did it, I would like to think that he did not die in vain.  I would like to think that his death had made his accusers contemplate.  That his death had made those who are guilty of corruption ponder on the futility of amassing wealth that is not rightfully theirs.  By taking his life, he was telling the world that he was not “kapalmuks”.  If only he did not act as fast, but thought it over many times.  He should have faced the people – those who have gained through corruption, those he had tolerated in their corruption.  He should have faced the Filipino people and admit that he also received millions of pesos, because he thought that it was okay, and he just inherited the system, but now he has realized that it was wrong, and it was time to ask for forgiveness from God and the Filipino people.  If only he did that, maybe, those generals who were accused would also come forward, admit their sins and ask for forgiveness.

I know it is hard to do that, but it is more honorable than committing suicide.  But that scenario did not happen.  He chose to end his life instead.
