Am I Being Nostalgic?

Am I being nostalgic?

Sometimes I long for the days when the traditional way of worship service begins with congregational singing with only the worship leader in front leading it with no back-up singers. The mood was solemn. I have nothing against contemporary music that is being practiced in church nowadays, where the worship leader with the back-up singers are singing and the congregation joins while clapping their hands. But I can’t help remembering singing those old tunes. Sometimes I am just eager and hopeful that once in a while (maybe once a year), we can return to that kind of praise and worship.

I like to hear and sing again the hymns Amazing Grace (which was one of the songs sung by the guest preacher/singer Eddie Mesa way back in 1984 during the celebration of the church anniversary), Christ Receiveth Sinful Men (which was a favorite of my late father), Face to Face with Christ, my Savior (which was my late mother’s favorite), The Old Rugged Cross (which I first learned to sing in my early teens), There Is Power In The Blood, and What A Friend We Have In Jesus, which we used to sing during mid-week prayer meetings in church. I can just go on and on with a list of the old hymns written during the 20th century or earlier. The problem is I am not sure it will be appreciated by this generation of church goers.

Well, I am just being nostalgic, that’s all.
