They Will Stay Fresh and Green

Productivity, service, and stewardship need to be a part of life until our death.  As the psalmist says, we need to stay "fresh and green" (Psalm 92:14).

It is true, of course, that when we reach our senior years we begin to experience the effects of aging.  Blood pressure begins to rise.  As you drive your car it appears that the people on the freeway are all younger.  The aging process cannot be denied.  Death is inevitable.  But it is prepared for even as we live.  And all that we have been in the earlier years matures and flowers in older age.  The Christian senior citizen understands grace better than in earlier years; hence, the seasoned years have all the potential for happiness and service in our lives, even if they are on a different playing field.  And this is no deterrent to well-being and servanthood.  Growing older brings opportunity for the integration of life, accumulated knowledge and discernment.

The righteous will flourish like palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.  They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green. - Psalm 92:12-14
