Above All

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33

The Lord Jesus has commanded us not to worry about our life - about food, or our body or our clothing.  He pointed out the fact that birds do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet their needs are being provided.  So how much more for us people?

So He further gave a more important commandment, as stated in Matthew 6:33.  When we seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, all the things that we need will be provided.  How do we seek the kingdom of God?  Is seeking merely looking or finding?  In this context, the word “seek” has a far deeper meaning.  It means to “desire”.

Desire means to want, to long for, to crave for, and to yearn for.  If this is what seek means, many Christians would fall short.  Sadly, many Christians had their “highs” only a few days or a few months after knowing or receiving Christ as their personal Savior.  Right after receiving Christ as Savior, a new Christian becomes very passionate about lost souls.  He would be “on fire” for the Lord.  He has a desire to talk to his friends about his new-found salvation in Christ.  Usually, that is the picture right after a person’s salvation.  Then after a few months, as he is immersed in the world, the “first love” for the Lord wanes.

To prevent this from happening, the new Christian must grow in his Christian life; aside from going to church on Sundays, he must surround himself with Christian friends, participate in Bible studies, and have daily personal devotions.
