Death
What is death? Merriam-Webster defines it as a permanent cessation of vital functions; the end of life.
Most people avoid the subject of death. They say talking about it is morbid.
We must admit, it is not nice talking about death. It is a sad thing that death is painful because it separates us from our family and friends. But it is a reality. Unlike some of the characters in the Bible like Enoch and Elijah, who did not experience death, all of us are destined to leave this world through death. So this is important. We need to prepare for this. Nobody knows when the Lord will take us, so we must always be prepared.
In 1 Corinthians 15:55, the apostle Paul asked: "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death is your sting?" In the verses that followed (1 Corinthians 15:16-17), he answered the questions: "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law."
If a person dies in his sin, that is, if he has not repented of his sins and has not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into his life, and then dies, the law of God dooms the sinner to eternal punishment.
On the other hand, if a person has already come to the Lord Jesus Christ, and has accepted the Lord as his Savior, his death is considered "precious in the sight of the Lord", as what the bible states in Psalm 116:15.
So because death is a reality, we must not be fearful, but we must be always prepared for it for we don't know when it will come.
