Who will I vote for?
It is now exactly 31 days before the national elections. As early as last year, when all the presidential candidates have proclaimed their candidacy, I already had in my mind a particular candidate. However, that choice is not yet 100 percent sure. I wanted to hear more and see more of what each candidate will say and do. There was even a time that I wanted to change my mind. I really have to weigh everything; the positive and the negative things about each one of them.
Every candidate has his own particular issue. One candidate is an action man. Although fraught with many corruption allegations, he has done so much for the benefit of his constituents. Another candidate is perceived to be with unquestionable integrity and character; however, his leadership qualities and seemingly slow response to urgent and important issues leave much to be desired. Then, there is another who promises to curb corruption and criminality in just three to six months; however, a prominent senator said this is possible only if he would declare martial law. The last candidate, but not the least, seems to be the favorite of the electorate if we believe the surveys. It is really difficult to choose because all of them have issues.
As I said earlier, it is easy to eliminate the first candidate because of his numerous corruption allegations. So, the choice is among the three. Shall I vote for the candidate who is intelligent, decent, and honest, but with questionable leadership qualities? Or shall I choose the one who promises to stop corruption and criminality in a very short period of time (which I doubt). Or shall I not change my mind and vote for my first choice in spite of allegations of being a liar, of questionable citizenship issues, of being disloyal to the country?
May God grant us voters, guidance and wisdom to vote for the right person to lead our country.
