Being prepared to go

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9

Whenever I think of the day when my time on earth is done, (which at my age is not very far away), I would say to myself that I am ready to go anytime.  That I am not afraid to die because I know that since I received the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart, He gave me the assurance that when I go, I will be with Him in heaven.

It is not being presumptuous to claim that my destination is heaven.  1 John 5:10-13 says:  Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart.  Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.  And this is the testimony:  God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.  I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

However, ultimately, the last fear of old age is death itself.  For as much as we may long to see the face of our Savior, the process of getting there can be frightening.  My prayer is that when I go, I will be spared from having a painful death.  I am even thinking that I’d like to die in my sleep.
