Count Your Blessings
I now consider myself being in my twilight years. I have been in retirement for almost nine years. Nowadays, I keep myself busy by reading, writing, sorting out things in the house, helping my daughter in her house, and taking care of my differently-abled brother. Although I am no longer productive income-wise, the Lord has been faithful in supplying my needs - and even some of my desires (which are not expensive, me being a simple person that is easy to please).
The Lord has allowed me to go through many trials to teach me important lessons in life. These trials taught me that God is good. He is faithful in all His promises. He did not forsake me. These trials taught me to be strong, and I know that this strength is from Him. All tears that I shed from fears and worries that came with the painful experiences, He wiped away.
Looking back, and in spite of the very sad years during my middle age years, I can see God’s blessings. I had parents who taught me the value of hard work. I knew the Lord as my Savior at a relatively young age, all my siblings share the same faith. I have a husband who is hard working, I have two lovely daughters who are married to two very good men, and my only grandson who is always a joy to be around with, is smart and intelligent aside from being very helpful. God did not promise life without pain, but His promise is that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
