Happy New Year!

Another year. So what’s new? The only thing new here is it is another year. I am a year older, which means I am a year closer to the end of my life on earth. And of course, I anticipate that I will get physically slower and weaker as time goes by. I can no longer do jogging as in the past. But that is a negative way of seeing things.

Last year, I resolved to do the right things and to become the person God wants me to be. I must confess, I have failed a number of times, and I will not make any excuses about it.

Isn’t it wonderful that our God is a gracious God? That He is not only a God of second chances? He is the God of another chance, and another chance, and another chance.

I know that God wants me to view His gift of life in a positive way. Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So I choose to consider this year as another opportunity to do the right things. Another opportunity to become the person God has purposed me to be. What a great and awesome God I have! He is my King, my Life, my Savior, my Provider, my Protector! Thank you, dear God.

James 4:13-15 says: Look here, you people who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Because of this, I will always wait upon the Lord, and do whatever He wants me to do.

Thank you, Lord, for another year, for another chance to do things that will bring glory to your Name and to become the person you have purposed me to be.
