Bills - when will they stop coming?

Bills, bills and more bills!  When will they stop coming?  Utility bills such as electricity, water, and telephone bills, then there are the TV cable bills, credit card bills, insurance premium bills, and other kinds of bills.

Just like cooking, eating, bathing, doing the laundry and keeping the house clean, paying bills are a way of life.  They are not events

or special occasions like birthdays, Christmas, New Year, and the like.  They will keep coming as long as one is alive and they need to be settled.  As long as I am alive, I have to do all of them.  I can not say, oh, what happened, I just spent many hours cleaning the house the other day, why do I have to do it now all over again.  And bills are just like that.  I have to deal with them.

Paying bills means acknowledging God’s provision.  When I pay for the mortgage, I thank God for our home.  I thank God because I have done paying for it while I was still employed.  Bills indeed are a reminder of God’s blessings.  I cannot imagine a life without electricity, water, or telephone or even an internet connection.  Moreover, in this generation, a house without a television set and an internet connection is unimaginable.  How else can I spend my leisure and free time, not being able to watch good television shows and be updated with current events?  If I did not have a telephone and internet connection, I would not be  able to communicate with my loved ones who are living in other countries.

Paying the bills gives me the gift of perspective and correction.  As an example, do I need the daily paper  when I can get the news on television or on the internet?  Do I need to maintain six credit cards, or just keep two of them?   Although I am enjoying the benefit of maintaining credit cards because I don’t need to carry cash outside of my home, monitoring all expenses incurred through the use of these credit cards take a substantial part of my time.

This makes me decide not to abuse God’s gift of provision.  I need to cancel unnecessary credit cards, and cut off on impulsive spending.  I need to remind myself to be more prudent in spending God’s gifts.

Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Ephesians 5:20

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.  For He Himself said "I  will never leave you or forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
