Do you think you're still young?

Ikaw kasi, akala mo bata ka pa!  (So you thought you’re still young!) That was what a former officemate remarked when she learned that I was limping because at age 67, I did brisk walking/slow jogging and running at the Marikina Sports Park oval.  I must confess  it was with great effort that I was able to do that.  It was easier for me to do that way back in 2002-2004 as compared with nowadays.  I must confess,  I am not as strong as I was 10 years ago, and I think anybody can understand that.

Well, the reason I did it is that I wanted to feel strong.  I want to prove to myself that I can still do it.  Well, the outcome?  For three weeks, I could not walk properly.  Initially, I took some medicine to relieve the pain and swelling, but after several days when there was no improvement, I was a bit worried that I had broken bones, so I was compelled to see an orthopedic doctor/surgeon.  I felt some relief when after the x-ray, the doctor assured me that no bone was broken, but my left foot was very much swollen inside, and he prescribed medicines for this.  He also required me to wear a knee support.

Now, I am okay.  I can walk properly without any limp, but I am still wearing a knee support, because whenever I take it off, the pain will return.  Maybe I have to continue to wear this for several days more.

I hope to resume brisk walking next month, but the doctor told me to go slow, that is, to lessen the rounds, and gradually increase it.  I was happy to hear that from the doctor.  I hate to think that I cannot do it anymore.

Hello jogging/brisk walking mates, I'll be with you next month!
